Lahore: Fatima Memorial Hospital College of Dentistry (FMHCD) organized an enlightening lecture by Dr. Amjad Sli Khan, BDS, DDS (USA), for Final Year BDS students, House Surgeons, Postgraduate trainees, and faculty.
Delivering a thought-provoking talk on “Iqbal’s Message in the Modern Age”, Dr. Khan emphasized Allama Iqbal’s vision as a guiding framework for today’s professionals. He highlighted the importance of Khudi (selfhood) and self-esteem, encouraging young dentists to uphold dignity, integrity, and commitment to excellence in both their clinical practice and personal lives.
He elaborated on Iqbal’s symbolic ideals of the Shaheen, Mard-e-Momin, and Insaan-e-Kamil, describing them as metaphors for leadership, vision, moral courage, and devotion to humanity. Dr. Khan urged students to pursue academic excellence and assume leadership roles, while reminding faculty of their responsibility in character building, advancing research, and nurturing future generations.
A significant part of his lecture focused on the Islamic democratic system of social justice, where honesty, equality, and merit are essential to national progress. He also stressed the distinction between modernization and westernization, advocating the adoption of modern science and technology while preserving cultural and ethical values.
The event was graced by Mrs. Shaheema Rehman, Chairperson Executive Committee, Nur-Fatima Memorial System, and Prof. Abid Ashar, Principal, FMH College of Dentistry. Both appreciated Dr. Khan’s efforts in contextualizing Iqbal’s philosophy for dental professionals and reinforcing the importance of aligning clinical excellence with ethical responsibility.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, leaving students and faculty inspired to integrate professional competence with moral values in building a just and progressive society.
