Students are advised to first approach the counsellor in person and agree upon a mutually suitable time for counselling sessions.
The counselling service offers mental health support for academic concerns and personal counselling, refers students to relevant sources for career counselling and refers students to the student affairs department for financial counselling regarding university and related costs.
The counselling service offers sessions of psychological interventions (mainly, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and where required psychiatric prescriptions (provided by the Head of the Psychiatry Department).
All counselling sessions are confidential, except where the counselling team becomes concerned for the welfare of the student or others, i.e., in situations where the person may be a risk to themselves or those around them.
- Prof. Dr. Imran Ijaz Haider (FRCPsych, UK): Consultant Psychiatrist & Head of the Psychiatry Department. Dr. Haider supervises the student counsellor; deals with medications for students, where required; and conducts full psychiatric assessments. Dr. Haider has many years of clinical experience in Pakistan and in the UK. He has organised, presented at and participated in international conferences and he has been involved in psychiatric research and teaching for a significant time.
- Ms. Farah Tiwana: Clinical Psychologist & Student Counsellor. Ms. Tiwana conducts psychological assessments and offers psychological sessions using mainly CBT and a humanistic counselling approach. Ms. Tiwana has significant experience in working with young adults through volunteer opportunities in the UK and in a professional capacity in Pakistan. She is a member of the British Psychological Society.
