
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Doctor of Physical Therapy is a dynamic healthcare profession with strong theoretical, clinical and research based scientific foundation. It is a “science of healing and art of caring”. The FMH Institute of Allied Health Sciences offer Doctor of Physical Therapy 5 years’ degree program which is affiliated with University of Health Sciences (UHS). The program is focus on the patients that have musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, vestibular and integumentary systems’ impairments leading to functional disabilities. UHS has been developed a comprehensive curriculum while keeping in lieu with the requirements posed by best international practice standards focusing on the method of evaluating functions of these systems, selection and application of appropriate therapeutic interventions to alleviate pain, eliminate impairments, maintain, improve or restore function and prevent dysfunction. In addition, there is a large research component built into the curriculum to keep up with the evidence based physical therapy practice.
Moreover, the field of physical therapy is well developed in specializations such as sports physical therapy; women’s health; prosthetics and orthotics; lymph edema and burns/wound care.
In the teaching hospital of Fatima Memorial Hospital students develop skills to get hands on practice by dealing indoor and outdoor patients while working closely with all healthcare professionals in providing care to the patients. They work in all settings including acute, sub-acute, chronic, inpatient and out- patient facilities.
Aim of the Department of Physical Therapy is to promote an academically and culturally diverse educational and research environment by providing high-quality education and communication skills to prepare future professional physical therapists to become leaders in the field, promoting healthy lifestyle, mobility and manual practices at the national and international level. The experienced and highly professional faculty is determined preparing graduates for outstanding professional careers at all levels.

1. World Physical Therapy Day
Celebrated annually on September 8th. It is an initiative by the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT), an international organization representing physical therapists worldwide. The day aims to raise awareness about the crucial role of physical therapy in improving and maintaining people’s health, mobility, and overall well-being. On World Physical Therapy Day, various events and activities are organized by physical therapy department.
2. Lectures at Judiciary Academy and Season Group of Companies
Lectures by Head of Physiotherapy department, Dr. M. Usman Riaz to increase awareness for postural guidance and sitting ergonomics at Punjab Judicial Academy, teaching different tiers of Judiciary, Punjab Food Authority and Season group of companies as well
3. Fundraising activities at Emporium
Department of Physical Therapy from FMH Institute of Allied Health Sciences participated in the zakat campaign held at Emporium Mall from 21st March 24 to 31st march 2024 in order to provide free medical services and plan of care to the deserving population.
4. CPD Workshops
Continuing Development Program has been tailored for Physical Therapy professionals to improve hands-on training, specific skills, knowledge, or competencies for Clinical as well as Professional Development such as leadership skills, time management, or ethics in physical therapy practice. After the workshop, we conduct evaluations to assess its effectiveness and impact on participants’ professional development. Follow up with attendees to provide additional support or resources as needed.
5. Basic Life Support Training
Designing a Basic Life Support (BLS) training workshop involves focusing on teaching participants essential life-saving skills needed to respond to emergency situations effectively focusing on Core Skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), usage of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and basic airway management techniques and First Aid Basics including basic first aid procedures for wounds, burns, and other injuries.
6.Camps for Postural Assessment
Postural analysis is a systematic evaluation of an individual’s body alignment and positioning while standing, sitting, or moving. It involves assessing various anatomical landmarks, joint angles, and muscle imbalances to identify deviations from the ideal posture. Department of Physical Therapy at FMH-IAHS organizes camps at various areas to increase postural awareness in general population which includes diagnostic tests and therapeutics techniques & exercises to improve it.
Planning of World Physical Therapy Day on September 8th to raise awareness about the crucial role of physical therapy in improving and maintaining people’s health, mobility, and overall well-being.
