Department of Family Medicine

The department of Family Medicine, FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry Lahore was established in 2003 with Family Medicine clinics in FMH and outreach programs. The department is recognized for postgraduate training in family medicine by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, University of Health Sciences Lahore. PMDC has approved 50 teaching hours in family medicine for undergraduate.

It provides following postgraduate training programs;

  1. Fellowship of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS)
  2. Membership of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (MCPS)
  3. International Membership of Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP [INT])
  4. Master in Family Medicine by University and Health Sciences Lahore

TRAINING VENUES/DOMAINS:

Community Based Primary Care Nainsukh: Training in Family Medicine is carried out at Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre Nainsukh Village, about 20 Km from Lahore. This centre has facilities for outpatient treatment, emergency care, X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, diagnostic lab, pharmacy, medical record maintenance and coding, minor procedure room, observation area and ambulance service.

Nainsukh PHC is the only recognized site in Punjab by CPSP for FCPS  Family Medicine and Community Medicine rotations.

Domiciliary Services: Domiciliary mobile health units visit five areas in the outskirts of Lahore. One is in Malikpur, Gajjumatta, Pir Nasir, Hazrat Essha, Orphan Homes Chubergi.

The vans are sent from FMH and are staffed by a doctor who is a medical officer and two nurses, and they also have the facility to dispense basic primary care medicines.

Family Medicine Department FMH provides health care service through our clinic at Raaziq Enterprises to all its employees.

Postgraduate Training Program: PGs mostly Canadian resident doctors complete one- or two-years training rotation which includes different specialties according to their learning needs assessed at the start of session by standard assessment forms. A four months rotation in Family Medicine clinic is mandatory. Faculty provide mentoring to individual candidates allowing them to be supported and to enhance their learning.

CME: Fatima Memorial Hospital has taken a lead in providing a platform for Continuing Medical Education (CME) to the practicing Family Physician within the country and abroad. The Royal College of General Practitioners UK has highly recommended this program for MRCGP International South Asia Examination. The faculty of the program includes specialists as well as experienced Family Physicians. A unique feature is the opportunity for distance learning via recorded lectures and other educational material. Over 1000 Family Physicians have participated in this CME program from not only all over Pakistan but also from Kashmir, Northern Areas, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, Oman, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
