FMHCM&D Visit to NUR Foundation School – Malikpur

(29th July 2016) The department of Community Health Sciences of FMH College of Medicine arranged an off-campus visit for the 4th year MBBS students to the Malikpur branch of NUR Foundation School focusing on the concept of school health. In addition, the students assessed the anthropometry, personal hygiene, vision and hearing of the students at school, as well as the environment of the school. In collaboration with the Nutrition department of Fatima Memorial Hospital they provided health education sessions and distributed healthy food, which included an apple and a carton of milk to each individual student. They provided zentel suspension (along-with instructions written in urdu) to each individual school student thus giving prime importance to the health of the school children. The visit proved to be a learning experience for the 4th Year MBBS students and a pleasant activity for the school children. School health services is a personal health service, which has developed from the narrower concept of medical examination of children to the present day broader concept of comprehensive care of the health and well being of children throughout the school years. These services enable the promotion of positive health, prevention of diseases, early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of defects, awakening health consciousness in children and the provision of healthy environment.
