Department of Anatomy

Study of Anatomy is a core component of undergraduate medical education. The Anatomy and Histology department of FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry has two major areas of activity; education and research. To fullfill these activities the department has well equipped laboratories. Cadaver dissection is a primary teaching method in the subject of gross Anatomy, which is accomplished in equipped dissection hall comprising of 10 dissection stations and two mortuary plants, accommodating six dead bodies each. A group discussion room adjoining the dissection hall is equipped with a LCD set and VCP (along with video cassettes and CDs) to facilitate learning. Multimedia has been added in the dissection hall to facilitate learning. PRIMAL, 3 Dimensional software is available with the Anatomy Department. The software is a great help for understanding functional and structural relation of different body parts. It is also helpful for all types of surgeries: general / orthopedics / dental etc. The Anatomy museum covers the whole field of the human body; it provides aid in the form of both prosecuted specimens and a number of individual bones are available. Histology is taught in the Histology Lab situated at the basement of the college building. Students have free access to microscopic slides (Local and imported Caroline slides). Trinocular microscope is available for group teaching as well as for photography of slides for research purposes.
